As a result of undertaking the training, delegates will meet the following learning objectives:

Accidents Defined: Understand what an accident is, its causes, and H&S accident reporting and recording policy.

Initiating investigations: Learn the essential steps to commence a thorough inquiry.

Accident Investigation: Understanding what leads to accidents and why it is important to get to the root causes.

Investigation Approach: What to consider/investigate and why, how to conduct witness interviews and collate facts, and the significance of assumptions.

HSE Guidance: HSG245 guidelines and best practices for effective investigations.

Crafting Comprehensive Reports: Learn how to compile insightful investigation reports.

About the training

  • Our IOSH Accident Investigation and Report Writing Training Course is designed to provide you with an understanding of the legal, financial, and moral reasons for investigating accidents and incidents at work. You will learn how to complete an effective investigation to establish the root cause(s) of an incident.

    This interactive one day course includes case studies, practical exercises, group and individual work.

    There is no specific legal requirement to investigate accidents, but an accident investigation report will always be asked by civil litigation lawyers when defending a compensation claim following an accident involving injury and often from insurers when investigating damage incidents.

  • This training is delivered online, joining instructions will be emailed to you a few days before course starts, as well as a learner pack and course guide. The training is delivered through a combination of presentations, interactive Q&A sessions, group activities, and practical exercises.

  • The training is a full-day course, starting at 09:30 and finishing at 16:30.

  • This course is ideal for all employers and employees seeking to enhance their incident investigation skills.

  • Yes, in order to gain accreditation you will need to complete an assessment comprising multiple-choice questions lasting a maximum of 45 minutes.

  • There is an ISBL member rate and a non-member rate for all our training programmes. All rates quoted below are inclusive of VAT and per person:

    Non-member rate: £500
